Tropical Shipping Guidelines for the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) for Port of Saint John

July 8, 2016 --

As you are aware, the amendments to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) went into effect globally on July 1, 2016.   The amendments require that Shippers have the responsibility for obtaining and providing the Verified Gross Mass (VGM) of containers before those containers can be loaded aboard a vessel.

In order to expedite the process when your trucker returns the full container to the Port, we ask that the paperwork your trucker presents at the gate house, has the VGM clearly indicated.  This will assist Port staff on where to place the container at the dock and help reduce the processing time to return the full and pick up an empty for your trucker.   This is in addition to providing the VGM certification with your documentation.

We sincerely appreciate all efforts to meet this requirement as we endeavor to ensure full compliance with this regulation and minimize the wait time incurred at the Port.
