Tropical Shipping continues to monitor the path and intensity of Hurricane Irma, currently passing through South Florida. Irma has left a path of devastation in St. Thomas, St. John, Tortola, Virgin Gorda, St. Maarten, Anguilla, St. Barths and Turks and Caicos. Our first priority is the safety and well-being of our Tropical team members and our customers. Secondly, we have begun damage assessment and recovery efforts. At this time we want to make you aware of the following:
Monday, September 11:
· Tropical Shipping offices in South Florida will reopen as weather conditions allow and our employees are able to return to work safely.
· All sailings from the Port of Palm Beach are cancelled. Our vessels took shelter from the storm on the western side of Cuba and will return to Palm Beach as Irma passes.
· Sailings from the Port of Palm Beach for the week beginning Tuesday Sept 12 will be determined as the weather clears and the Port of Palm Beach reopens.
Vessel Arrivals in the Islands
· BOMAR REBECCA worked in San Juan on Friday Sept. 8 and St Croix on Saturday Sept. 9. All destinations other than San Juan were discharged in St Croix due to the closure of the port in St. Thomas. (St. Thomas, St. John, Tortola, St. Maarten), She should arrive Halifax Thursday Sept 9, subject to weather conditions.
· VEGA OMEGA sailed Halifax Friday Sept 8 and should arrive in Palm Beach on Wednesday Sept. 13.
· TROPIC LURE is in Grand Cayman and will work once weather conditions improve.
· TROPIC OPAL will arrive in Providenciales area next Tuesday, September 12. She will dock when the port reopens.
· TROPIC TIDE sailed Port of Palm Beach on Wednesday Sept 6 to St. Thomas and the Leeward islands. She will arrive in St. Thomas on Tuesday, Sept 12 if port is reopened. All arrivals will be delayed 72 hours.
· TROPIC CARIB worked in St Croix Saturday night and discharged all cargo that is normally discharged in St Maarten. The port of St Maarten is still closed.
· TROPIC UNITY sailed Port of Palm Beach Thursday Sept 7 to St. Croix and the Windward islands. She will arrive in St. Croix on Tuesday, September 12 and all arrivals will be delayed 48 hours.
Please note - cargo that was discharged in St Croix as a result of port closures, will move to the final destination on our 2 feeder vessels that are staged in St. Croix once the ports reopen.
