As previously announced, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) 2020 sulfur emissions regulation will take effect January 1, 2020. To ensure compliance with the new regulation, Tropical will have to begin purchasing and burning the Compliant Fuel on November 3, 2019. This is due to the vessels requiring a minimum of two (2) cycles of fuel through their storage tanks to remove the fuel being used today.
As a result, our Bunker surcharges will increase on December 1, 2019, in accordance with the methodology that was announced this past July.
