Tropical Shipping Announces an Increase to the Overweight Trucking Permit Charge, Effective March 3, 2022.

As required by DOT guidelines, all cargo and equipment are subject to being weighed. Any load in excess of 80,000 lbs. total vehicle gross weight will require a special permit.  This applies to (a) equipment measuring a minimum of 51’ outer bridge.  Any equipment measuring combinations less than 51’ outer bridge cannot be permitted, or (b) equipment specifications outlined on Carrier's website at , or (c) exceptions otherwise stated within Carrier’s tariff.  An overweight trucking permit charge as shown below will be applied if the container travels on the road for each state that it travels through: Note: Even with an overweight permit if the equipment is not loaded properly and becomes overweight on axles, the Customer can still be subject to fines.

  • Memphis, TN to PPB, FL: By rail – overweight charges moving over the Memphis ramp would be $150.00 for TN and $150.00 for FL totaling $300.00 as the container moves over the road in TN to the ramp and in FL from the ramp to the port
  • Memphis, TN to PPB, FL: All motor – overweight charges moving over the road, all motor, would be $150.00 for three states (TN, GA, FL) that the truck travels through for a total additional charge of $450.00.
