Tropical Shipping and FEC Railroad partner together to provide affordable intermodal service for all of our customers. We strive to prevent cargo damage as well as ensure easier loading at the FEC Rail yard. To accomplish this, FEC has provided and enforces the following guidelines for flatrack loading and securement. If you have any questions, please contact your Tropical Intermodal Representative.
For loading purposes, all flatracks cannot be loaded with the commodity extending outside the plane of the bulkheads.
For securement, the following practices should be followed:
Lumber –
- Length determines number of straps/bands required.
- One strap band for every three feet with a minimum of two.
Tarps –
- All tarps must be secured/no loose flaps.
- If using Visqueen – 10 Mil is the minimum allowed.
The Downs –
- All straps should be hooked to the side of the rack.
- Do not hook under the rack unless absolutely necessary.
Dunnage –
- Cannot be taller than it is wide.
- Boards must lay flat on the 4” side.
- Must not stick out past the width of the rack.
All Racks must be inspected by an FEC mechanical employee before being loaded for a rail move.
